CPI today demanded resignation of Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, who is in the eye of a storm over the solar panel scam.

"It is evident that the Kerala CM, his enormous size office staff are actively involved in the solar scam. Ordinary people were duped, using the name of the Chief Minister and his office," the party said in a statement.

It is a scam, involving hundreds of crores of rupees and CM's additional PA, gunman and three other staff were suspended. 21 criminal cases were filed against Saritha Nair, Biju Radhakrishnan and others, it said.

CPI-M-led LDF has been pressing for Chandy's resignation, but a defiant Chief Minister rejected the demand, saying it was part of a political conspiracy by the opposition.

The LDF had called a strike yesterday in the state.

"CPI also condemns the police attack on the rally of LDF, using grenades, tear gas injuring Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan, CPI leader C Diwakaran and many others," the statement said.
