Voicing concern over steep air fares of Kerala-bound flights, the CPI today demanded in the Rajya Sabha that the government intervene and launch a special flight service for Keralites during Onam.
CPI leader Binoy Viswam, who raised the issue during Zero Hour in the Upper House, said both Air India and foreign flights are charging huge fare from Kerala-bound passengers.
"Fares are increased five times. How can small time workers come home during festivals? All Gulf-bound flights and Air India are doing great injustice," he said.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation and the central government is "sleeping" over the matter, he said and urged, the government to intervene and launch a special flight service.
