CPI has disapproved party leader Atul Kumar Anjan's controversial remarks regarding a condom advertisement featuring actress Sunny Leone.

The remark was criticised during the Left party's two-day national executive meeting, which concluded here yesterday, the party's general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy said today.

"The national executive criticised and disapproved certain recent utterances of national council secretary Atul Kumar Anjan including those related to a condom advertisement of actress Sunny Leone," Reddy said in a statement.

Anjan had stoked a controversy by stating that the "disgusting and dirty" advertisement featuring Leone could lead to rise in rape incidents, and sought ban on the same.

"Whenever you switch on TV sets, you get to see a woman by the name of Sunny Leone, who has acted in porn films and has become heroine in (Bollywood) films...She has acted in porn films which cannot be seen for more than two minutes. Now her advertisement is being shown on TVs," he had said during an event in Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh earlier this month.

"The disgusting and dirty advertisement of condoms develops sexuality and ends sensibility...If such kind of advertisements continue to be aired on national TV and appear in newspapers, rape cases will increase and there is a need to put a check on them," he added.
