In view of the controversy arising out of the claim of senior IAS Officer Umashankar on preaching Christianity, both CPI and Dravidar Kazhagam today opposed preaching by any government employees.

Replying to a specific question on the issue, DK President, K Veeramani said it was bad in taste that an IAS officer was giving sermons on religious issues.

Not only this, his organisation opposed even government servants, particularly police, going to pilgrimage to Sabarimala, wearing black or saffron clothes, he said.

CPI State secretary, D Pandian, he said if the reports were true, preaching by a top official should not be allowed.

Government officials should not not indulge in such activities, he said.
