CPI today extended "fraternal greetings" to Nepal for embracing "secular, federal and democratic Constitution" even as it expressed displeasure at the way Narendra Modi Government has "interfered" after the neighbouring nation made the move.
"CPI sends its fraternal greetings to people of Nepal on the occasion of promulgation of a secular, federal, democratic new constitution," CPI general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy said in a statement.
"CPI expresses its displeasure the way Modi government has interfered after adoption of Constitution in Constitutional Assembly in Nepal to raise its concerns. It shows once again approach to the developments around our neighbouring countries," he said.

In a jibe at Centre, he said people of Nepal are "mature enough" to decide their own destiny without "outside interference" and will definitely find ways to build possible consensus to overcome their problems and will march forward to realise their goals.
The ex-MP said though certain sections of people, particularly Madhesis, in Nepal are not happy with the development, CPI believes there will be ample opportunity to address their concern within the framework of new Constitution.
Yesterday, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury too had hailed the development and congratulated Nepal for its adoption of Constitution making it a "secular and sovereign republic".
Nepal had on Sunday adopted its new fully secular and democratic Constitution, achieved after seven years of painstaking deliberations, amid violent protests by minority Madhesi groups over a seven province federal structure.
