"Massive irregularities have been reported in the sale of sugar mills and it is necessary that either stern action is initiated against those responsible for it or the government recommends CBI inquiry," a party release said.
Recalling that a similar demand had been made by the CPI to the Governor through a memorandum on October 9, 2011, the party said, "Unfortunately the massive corruption was hushed up at that time".
The party alleged that of the ten sugar mills, five - in Bijnore, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Chandpur and Saharanpur - were sold off to Mayawati's close aide Ponty Chaddha at "remarkably low rates".
It also pointed out that the other five mills - in Jarval, Khadda, Rohana kala, Sakauti Tanda and Sisuwa Bazar - were sold to Indian Potash limited at a higher price. PTI SAB PG KAS
