A CPI(M) councillor was allegedly manhandled while opposing the budget proposals of the Mayor at Howrah Municipal Corporation today.

CPI(M) district leadership alleged the councillor Ashraf Javed was not allowed by Trinamool Congress councillors to voice his dissent over some of the features of the Budget proposals tabled by Mayor Dr Arjun Chakroborty.

Javed was also manhandled by the TMC councillors, the CPIM alleged but TMC denied the charges.

The developments followed war of words among ruling TMC and opposition CPIM-BJP councillors over the budget project allocations and two BJP councillors walked out in protest.

The TMC alleged opposition was indulging in negative politics and trying to stop the development pace of the state government.
