The CPI(M) today demanded that the Puducherry government constitute a Special Investigation team and conduct an 'impartial' probe into the 'killing' of its party cadre at Palloor in nearby Mahe recently.

"An SIT should be constituted to bring all the accused to book," CPI(M) state secretary, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, told reporters after visiting the house of the slain party worker at Mahe, an enclave of Union Territory of Puducherry.

The deceased, Babu, who was a local CPI(M) leader and former councillor, had been facing threat for some time and police did not take heed to the threats. Puducherry police should take responsibility for the murder, he said.

He also wanted Puducherry Chief Minister, V Narayanasamy, to take necessary steps to form SIT and ensure a fair probe.

Alleging that the killing was a 'well planned' conspiracy by the RSS, Kodiyeri said it was an attempt to stop the growth of the marxist party in Mahe.

Shortly after Babu was killed, in an apparent retaliatory attack, a BJP worker was fatally attacked on May 6 night.
