CPI(M) today attacked the NDA government over the cabinet decision to raise FDI cap in insurance sector to 49 per cent, saying the ruling party was implementing what it had previously objected to as an opposition.

"What the BJP opposed earlier as opposition, is what they have now started implementing... It was a BJP Chairman-led Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance that had submitted a unanimous report opposing increasing of the sealing from 26 per cent to 49 per cent. But now their cabinet clears this," CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury told reporters outside the Parliament here.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy said that they were doing whatever was in the interest of the nation.

"Whatever is good for the country, we shall do it," he said, when questioned about the BJP's move to raise the cap in insurance sector, which it had opposed when it was in the opposition during the previous regime.
