CPI(M) leaders booked for roadside protest approach HC

Three senior CPI-M leader, including its general secretary Prakash Karat, today moved the Kerala High Court seeking quashing of a case registered against them for conducting meetings on road margins.

Acting on a private complaint by one P Nagaraj of Neyyatinkara, police had registered a case against Karat, CPI-M Kerala unit Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan, opposition Leader in the Assembly V S Achutanandan and some other party leaders for holding the protest meeting on roadside on October 2, 2009.

Demonstrations and human chain had also been organised by the Left parties.

The high court had prohibited conduct of roadside meetings as they were causing inconvenience to movement of vehicular traffic and pedestrians.
 

Karat, Vijayan and Achuthanandan filed a petition in the high court for quashing the case.
