Setting at rest speculation of him sticking to his personal decision to quit the assembly membership following defeat in Lok Sabha polls, CPI(M) Politburo member M A Baby returned to the House today after a week's absence.

Baby, who was defeated in the Kollam Lok Sabha seat by RSP's N K Premachandran, had offered to resign his assembly membership since he lagged behind his rival even in his home segment Kundara, which he represents in the House.

Though the party's central and state leadership had rejected Baby's position, his absence in the House last week fuelled speculation that he was upset with the leadership over the issue.

The party leadership held that there was no need for Baby to resign as the party was collectively responsible for defeat and victory of its candidates.
