CPI(M) today ridiculed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks that he wants to convert the country's economy from 8 trillion USD to 20 trillion USD, saying his "lack of of knowledge" of the country's financial system was a "national embarrassment".

"@narendramodi says wants take Indian Economy of $8 Trillion to $20 Trillion? It is National Embarrassment!!!

"PM does not even know the size of Indian Economy which just crossed $2 Trillion mark in 2014," party general secretary Sitaram Yechury posted on Twitter.

Projecting India as a "heaven" for investors during a question and answer session at Facebook headquarters in the US on September 27, Modi had said his government is working on deregulation and ensuring 'ease of doing business' as he aims to convert size of the country's economy into 20 trillion USD.
