"Systematic attacks on Left workers, growing difference between Trinamool Congress and Congress and failure of the state government reminds us of the days of the Emergency of 1975," CPI(M) leader Suryakanta Mishra told a CITU rally here.
"We have lost several of our party workers after the new government took over 15 months ago. There have been attacks on our party offices and false cases filed against many of our workers," he said.
He also ridiculed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the arrest of a farmer whom she claimed was a Maoist at a rally in at Belpahari in West Midnapore district.
"It is surprising how the chief minister could detect a Maoist from the dais," he said about the farmer, Siladitya Chowdhury, who was released yesterday on bail after serving 14 days in jail.
The CPI(M) leader alleged "even judiciary is not spared by the chief minister."
