Accusing the ruling Trinamool Congress of "disrupting" democracy in the state, the CPI(M) today threatened to launch a statewide agitation if it continued to be the target of "motivated" attacks.
Strongly reacting to the attack on their procession led by Siliguri Mayor Asok Bhattacharya at Balasan near Siliguri yesterday, CPI(M) state secretary Surjya Kanta Mishra today alleged that the ruling party was organising such "attacks" after "failing" to get support of the people in the area.
Mishra said that his party had lodged complaints with the police, but no action was taken.

"We will organise another procession in Siliguri today to protest against deliberate and motivated attack on us at Balasan. If it fails to check recurrence of attacks, we will organise statewide agitation," Mishra said.
It has been alleged that the Left front had organised a protest-rally at Balasan yesterday in which the Siliguri Mayor was present along with CPI(M) Darjeeling district convenor Jibesh Sarkar when TMC workers launched an attack.
Mishra further alleged that on Friday a CPI(M) party office was ransacked by Trinamool Congress goons at Matigara. Protesting against the incident a rally and a meeting was organised in the area which was attacked by the TMC with bricks and stones.
Even as the police was informed, they reached the spot after one hour, Mishra alleged adding that the TMC was trying to disrupt democracy in the state.
Mishra also criticised the recent arrest of one of their party workers at Salboni in West Midnapore district on suspicion that he was a "Maoist activist". "This is nothing but harassment," he said.
