Accusing BJP and RSS of trying to "erode" Article 370, CPI(M) today warned of "serious repercussions" if any attempt was made to further weaken the provision which was already reduced to a "mere caricature".

"The special status guaranteed (to Jammu and Kashmir) under Article 370 has been seized from time to time by the central regimes in collaboration with rulers of the state and what less has been left is being further eroded.

Any move to further weaken it will be dealt with heavy hands by the people of the state," senior CPI(M) leader and MLA M Y Tarigami said.

Addressing a public rally in Banumullah in his home constituency of Kulgam, 70 kms from here in south Kashmir, Tarigami said eroding Article 370 would have "serious repercussions".

He called for united efforts by all "secular and like-minded forces" to desist the "designs of RSS and BJP" to further erode the article.

He appealed to the people of the state to defeat any "designs to dilute" the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.

Referring to the new Industrial Policy and setting up of Sainik colonies, he said the present dispensation is trying to encouraging outside investors and entrepreneurs to further "aggravate unemployment" and give away the "state resources to them for exploitation which will further alienate the youth and people of the state.
