CPI today asked the Centre to explain whether it has diluted Indian law to reach an agreement with the US on implementing the civil nuclear deal.
"What can be a breakthrough unless the government has agreed to succumb to US pressure to dilute Indian laws relating to the Civil Nuclear Liability Act? If this is so, then it is only to help the American nuclear companies," CPI National Secretary D Raja said.
Claiming that there is no transparency in the agreement, he said, "The government will have to explain as no details of the agreement reached between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Barack Obama have been given out so far. There is no transparency.
"The Nuclear Liability law has been enacted by Parliament, how can they dilute it without its consent," he said.
India and the US today broke the 7-year-old logjam in operationalising their landmark civil nuclear deal during talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Barack Obama.
The two sides resolved key hurdles pertaining to the liability of suppliers of nuclear reactors in the event of an accident and the tracking of fuel supplied by the US.
