CPI today demanded a high level probe into alleged irregularities in the preparation and distribution of smart cards meant for ration card holders.
CPI Puducherry unit Secretary R Viswanathan in a statement alleged a private agency assigned with the work of preparing the smart cards had not been carrying out the job properlyand public were virtually running from pillar to post to get the cards.
He further said the details of the card holders that had been fed into the computers were later said to have been deleted, necessitating a fresh initiative, which meant incurring hefty expenditure again by the government.
Alleging that an official attached to the project was issuing 'fake smart cards', he sought a high-level probe into all aspects.
