The Communist Party of India (CPI) will join the "BJP Bhagao, Desh Bachao" rally called by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in Patna on August 27, a senior leader of the Left party said.

"Our party will attend the Patna rally. It is a rally against fascist forces, BJP-RSS' misrule," CPI national secretary D Raja said.

"This is another opportunity for the secular democratic forces to come together and tell the people that there is a need for resisting these forces," he added.

Raja said he and party general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy are likely to attend the rally.

The rally is seen as an attempt to forge a larger alliance of "like-minded" parties to counter the BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
