Communist Party of India (CPI) will hold nationwide protests against the Narendra Modi-led NDA government's Land Acquisition Ordinance tomorrow.

A rally will be held at Parliament Street in Delhi while simultaneous protests are planned in other parts of the country, the party said in a statement.

According to the statement, party general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy, secretaries Atul Kumar Anjan and Amarjeet Kaur and members of its national council will address the rally here.

"In Delhi, the rally will be joined by comrades from neighbouring states Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan along with farmers, workers and other sections of society," CPI assistant secretary Dinesh Varshney said in the statement.

The CPI has been opposing Centre's decision to remove clauses mandating farmers' consent and conducting social impact assessment before land acquisition from the 2013 Act introduced by previous UPA-II Government.

According to the Act, if land acquired remains unused for five years, then the same is to be returned to the original owner. The NDA Government has eliminated this clause too, the party complained.
