Expressing anguish over "naked" attempts of Narendra Modi government to saffronise political system, CPI today asserted that it would continue its struggle to defend democratic ethos of the country and urged people to be vigilant against the "dangerous" moves of RSS.

The resolution on 'Saffronisation of various political and democratic institutions' taken up by the party at its ongoing 22nd Congress at Puducherry, said attempts are also being made to "mix" science and mythology and history and mythology to spread "obscurantist" ideas.

"The 22nd Congress with serious concern expresses its indignation and anguish over the naked attempts of Narendra Modi government to saffronise political system of our country.

"Persons belonging to RSS and other Sangh Parivar bodies are being inducted into important positions in various branches of administration and in institutions of history," the party said.

Persons belonging to RSS are being inducted in institutions like ICHR, ICSSR, Film Censor Board, Prasar Bharti, science bodies, NCERT and SCERTs, literary and publishing houses such as NBT, teachers' training institutes and selections of vice-chancellors of various central and state universities, it said.

"The politics of suppression of dissent, attack on diverse cultures, practices and beliefs, intolerance of culture of reasoning and scientific temperament and of seeking accountability... Is not only being vehemently pursued but efforts are being made to institutionalise it. Attempts are also being made to mix science and mythology as well as history and mythology to spread obscurantist ideas," it said.

It urged progressive sections of the society and people to be "vigilant" and defeat the "dangerous" moves of the Sangh Parivar led by the Narendra Modi government in the interest of democratic-secular politics of our country.

The party also condemned the reduction in budget allocation for education to 16.5 per cent and said it reflects its "callous" attitude towards the problems of education which is vital to nation building.
