Around 250 members of CPI today courted arrest here when they held a protest demanding conduct of "Jallikattu", bull taming sport, during the Pongal festival.

CPI State Secretary Mutharasan said they would continue to organise a series of agitations to press their demand.

Police arrested 250 party members at Pethaniapuram here for staging the protest without permission which cannot be granted in view of the Supreme Court's order banning jallikattu.

Mutharasan said the demand to hold jallikattu had come from the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Union Minister of State Pon.Radhakrishnan and wondered why CPI workers were arrested for making the same demand.

He claimed police had given permission for the agitation on Nov 26 and cancelled it by mid-night without giving any reason.
