CPWD asked to complete new wing of Parliament by Oct 2015

Union minister M Venkaiah Naidu today asked the CPWD to complete the construction of a new wing of Parliament House Annexe by October next year, over a year after it was scheduled to be completed.

The Urban Development and Parliamentary Affairs Minister gave the direction after Speaker Sumitra Mahajan reviewed the maintenance of Parliament House building and construction of the new Parliament House Annexe Extension, a senior Urban Development Ministry official said.

It was also decided that a high-level team comprising Secretary General of Lok Sabha, Secretary (Urban Development) and officials concerned including Chief Engineer of CPWD shall inspect Parliament House Building before commencement of every session, he said.
 

Naidu also instructed the officials to complete the construction of 84 staff quarters at R K Puram locality here by September 2015 and evolve procedures for better maintenance of Parliament House building on the lines of Rashtrapati Bhawan.

He further instructed officials to build an air-conditioned enclosure for mediapersons at Gate 4 of Parliament.

He also said officials getting posted to Parliament House will have to serve a minimum tenure of three years.
