CPWD to maintain Rajiv Gandhi Memorial at Sriperumbudur

Government today decided to hand over the upkeep and maintenance of the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu to the Central Public Works Department.

The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting here.

The CPWD will now be responsible for arrangements for upkeep and maintenance and management of the Rajiv Gandhi Memorial.

Its responsibilities would include organising functions on the birth and death anniversaries at the memorial.

The CPWD would be provided with appropriate budget for this purpose.

The memorial in Tamil Nadu, built at public cost, attracts a large number of visitors every day.

It was built in the memory of the late Prime Minister at the site where he was assassinated in May, 1991.
