CR takes up monsoon preparatory work to ensure smooth services

To ensure smooth suburban train services during the upcoming monsoon season, the Central Railway has taken up preparatory works like removal of muck, cleaning culverts and drains and providing pumps at locations vulnerable to water-logging.

The CR has identified Masjid, Mazgaon yard, Byculla, Currey Road, Sion, Kurla, Vikhroli, Ghatkopar, Nanipada, Thane, Mumbra, Dombivli on the main line, and Sewri, Vadala, Chunabhatti, Tilaknagar and Chembur on the harbour line as vulnerable to water-logging during heavy rains where 23 pumps will be provided before May 31, it said in a statement today.

In addition, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai will provide 16 pumps at 15 locations, it said.
 

To ensure proper flow of water during the rain, the Central Railway has also de-silted and cleaned 1,10,459 meters of drains and has also taken up cleaning of 58 culverts on its suburban section.

The CR has also set up a control office to keep a liaison with meteorological department, disaster management cell and staff deputed at flood prone areas for continuous monitoring and constant updates.
