Crackdown on snatchers: Duo with pistol held in Vasant Vihar

Two persons allegedly involved in multiple cases of murder, attempt to murder and robbery have been arrested here with an automatic pistol and five live cartridges having been recovered from their possession, police said.

According to police, the accused have been identified as Raju (33) and Mohd Wasi Khan (26), both natives of Bijnor district in Uttar Pradesh.

Following a tip-off, the duo was nabbed yesterday from near Basant Lok Park Road, behind the PVR Priya Complex in Vasant Vihar. A bike was also seized from them.

South Delhi police said they have constituted several teams to nab burglars and snatchers in the area.
 

During interrogation, police found that Raju was involved in a robbery case in 2003 and had spent seven years in Tihar Jail. After his release in 2009, he went back to Chandpur in Bijnor and formed his own gang and committed a series of robberies.

He was also involved in an attempt to murder and murder case, said a senior police official.

The other accused, Khan, was a district and state-level cricketer but had to give up that career after meeting with an accident. He started a glow sign business, but suffered losses, police said, adding that he is alleged to have committed a murder.
