The shed of a cracker manufacturing unit at a nearby village was razed to the ground in a blast that occurred during the automated chemical mixing process, however, there were no casualties, police said.
An operator and a foreman, who had fed the explosive chemicals into the machine had come out to monitor the process from a distance, they said.
The workers had not turned up when the explosion occurred at 8 AM at the unit in Podureddiarpatti village and so there were no casualities.
Revenue officials are camping in the factory to investigate, they said.
