Singer Saikat Mitra says the craze for yesteryear goldies will never go despite the popularity of Bangla band numbers and contemporary lyric-based tracks in Bengali films.

"Phrases like facebook.Com, boba tunnel, kobitar sure couplet - part of the dialect of the urban youth of today - are increasingly coming up in modern songs and never look out of place. This is welcome," Saikat told PTI here.

"While this is one facet, tracks like 'amar swapne dekha rajkanya thake by my father Shyamal Mitra continue to dominate the charts. And never fade away," he said.

The singer, who had brought to life compositions of great music directors from Salil Chowdhury, Hemanta Mukherjee, Bhupen Hazarika, Mrinal Banerjee, said the advent of digital age fostered the nostalgia of the global Bengali who can download songs and tunes without waiting for cassettes and cds.

Saikat was speaking after the launch of the audio cd facebook.Com aimed at the Gen Next.
