BJP President Amit Shah today urged the people of the country, especially the party workers, to pledge themselves to help create a strong India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Unfurling the national flag at the BJP headquarters here, Shah paid rich tributes to freedom fighters who fought for the independence of the country and exhorted partymen to rededicate themselves in creating a new and great India.

"Let us again rededicate ourselves to the nation and move forward shoulder-to-shoulder under the leadership of Narendra Modi in creating a new and great India.

"I appeal to people of the country, especially the BJP workers, to take a pledge to help contribute and take forward the work carried out under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership in building a strong India and taking it forward," he said in his brief address.

Remembering the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation, he said, "I also pay my rich tributes to all those who participated in the country's freedom struggle and helped the country be independent and due to whose contribution our national flag is flying high."

He added that after this 68-year journey, the nation has once again committed itself to achieve the future goals.

A number of other BJP leaders and Union Ministers, including J P Nadda, Vinay Sahsrabuddhe, Shyam Jaju and Meenakshi Lekhi were present on the occasion.

Unfurling the national flag at his residence, BJP veteran L K Advani said the self confidence that Modi and his government has on the country's future, emanates from the trust of the large population in the party workers.

"Today he (Modi) laid emphasis on the fact that his and his government's self confidence emanates from the trust and self confidence of such a large population of the country in BJP workers. I also feel so," he said.

He also expressed concern over the disruptions caused in the Parliament and hoped that work in the coming sessions will carry on normally as the improvement witnessed towards the end of this session.

In his short message, the BJP veteran said, "People have lot of hopes. The self confidence in the country has increased a lot and all are awaiting the coming years."

Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley also congratulated people on the occasion of 69th Independence Day.

A number of Union Ministers unfurled the national flag at their residences, including Nitin Gadkari and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.
