Jammu region is facing a "credible threat" of attack by terrorists who could cross over from Pakistan and security forces are on high alert to thwart it, a senior official of the state police said today.
"There has been credible threat that International Border can be breached (by militants) from Akhnoor to Kathua area (to carry out attack)," Deputy Inspector General of Police (Jammu-Kathua Range) Ashkoor Wani told reporters.
He refused to divulge the 'specific inputs' but said police, over the past one month, had to maintain 'high alert' in Jammu region three times when they got inputs that militants might have breached the IB in Jammu region.

"There are credible inputs that if such breach takes place along the International Border, they (militants) might try to launch attacks at the places along the Jammu Pathankot National Highway," Wani said.
He said the security forces including the Border Security Force (BSF), Army and the police are maintaining a strict vigil to foil any such nefarious designs of the militants.
"See we keep on learning from what happened in the past. Learning is an ongoing process. But I must tell you that the BSF, Army and then the Police are maintaining a strict vigil, we are maintaining extra vigil along the known and other vulnerable infiltration routes," he said.
