Cricket betting racket busted, one held in Hyderabad

An inter-state cricket betting racket has been busted here with the arrest of one person, who allegedly indulged in betting during the recently-held T20 match played between India and Sri Lanka held in Pune, police said today.

Based on specific information, the Commissioner's Task Force, East Zone Team, busted the inter-state cricket betting racket and yesterday arrested the accused, Dinesh Agarwal, after raiding his house at Puranapul here, they said.

"A sum of Rs 1.79 lakh, along with two multi-line equipment suitcases containing 29-cell phones, used in the racket were seized from his possession," a release from Hyderabad Police said today.
 

During the raid, police found that the accused was collecting cricket betting amount directly and indirectly over phone from the known and unknown punters on T20 International Cricket match played between India and Sri Lanka at Pune and earning easy money illegally.

"He used to get updates of betting rates over phone from one Agarwal from Delhi on his phone on a commission basis. He (the arrested accused) used to pay Rs 6,000 per month to Agarwal for providing updates of match betting ratio information on cell phone," the release added.

Efforts are on to nab the absconding accused from Delhi, it said.
