The crime branch of the Jammu and Kashmir police filed a chargesheet on Friday against an accused, who is facing nearly two dozen cases, mostly related to land-grabbing, a police spokesperson said.

Ravinder Kumar alias Gola Shah of Greater Kailash was chargesheeted by the crime branch in the 20th FIR against him in a local court, he added.

Documentary evidence and statements established the offences against Shah and two of his accomplices -- Joginder Singh, a former village head and the holder of the power of attorney of a piece of land pertaining to which cheating has allegedly been committed, and Chet Ram, the owner of the land who has passed away -- the spokesperson said.

The FIR against Shah was lodged at the office of the crime branch here in 2011 on a complaint of Kuldeep Raj Gupta and Rohit Mahajan of R S Pura here.

"Shah kept evading the investigation and tried his best to delay it. However, the investigating officer was able to prove the allegations of cheating against the accused by collecting all the relevant evidence and chargesheeted them in the court of law," the police spokesperson said.

He added that Shah was a notorious land-grabber and had 21 FIRs lodged against him.

"Of these, he is accused in 14 for land-grabbing. The first FIR was lodged against him in 2002 at the Gangyal police station. Subsequently, he became a historysheeter at that police station and also at the crime branch," the spokesperson said.

In 2006, the then district magistrate of Jammu had issued an arrest warrant under the stringent Public Safety Act against Shah, he added.
