The crime branch of Odisha Police today set up a special investigation team, under the leadership of an Additional SP Anil Kumar Das, to probe into the February 23 parcel bomb blast case in Balangir district.

The move comes a day after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik ordered a crime branch probe into the incident.

A newly wed man, Soumya Shekhar, and his grandmother were killed after a parcel bomb disguised as a wedding gift exploded at their home in Patnagarh area of Balangir district.

His wife, Reema Sahu, who sustained critical injuries in the blast, is undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital here.

Sahu had yesterday made an emotional appeal for justice to Patnaik from her hospital bed.

"The team today visited SCB Medical College and Hospital to record Sahu's statements," crime branch Superintendent of Police RB Panigrahi said.

The Balangir police had been probing into the case for the past one month but could not make any headway so far.

Sahu had maintained that she or her husband had no enmity with anyone.
