The number of cognisable crimes in Andhra Pradesh till November this year saw a rise of 12.94 per cent with 1,88,340 cases registered as against 1,63,963 reported during the same period last year.
According to Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police B Prasada Rao, crime against women also rose by 15.11 per cent with registration of 25,998 cases, up from 22,585.
The number of rape cases increased by 20.49 per cent from 1,191 to 1,435 and molestation cases rose by 47.19 per cent with 5,624 cases as against 3,821.
The number of abduction cases involving women reported till November this year were 1,203 and recorded 17.94 per cent rise as compared to last year's 1,020, the DGP said.
As many as 1,016 cases were registered under sections of Criminal Law (Amendment) Act-2013(Nirbhaya Act) this year in AP, Prasada Rao told reporters here, adding that "there is free registration of cases and also in view of more number of complaints lodged by women (on crime against them) there is an increase in number of cases."
A proposal has been sent to government for setting up of 131 more women police stations, up from the existing 32 police stations, the DGP said.
On the pro and anti-Telangana stir, the AP Police chief said agitations were handled with firmness and minimum use of force and added that police booked 466 cases and 1,225 persons were arrested in connection with the agitations.
The extremist crime declined by 35 per cent this year and 163 extremists were arrested and 76 surrendered.
In 'Dial 100' (a centralised system on the lines of an emergency response agency like '911' in the US), at DG Command and Control Centre here during the first six months of operation, 12 million calls were handled and half million emergencies attended to, Rao said.
The road accidents increased by 6.45 per cent as compared to last year and stood at 40,384 while the total penalty imposed for violation of traffic rules was Rs 123.75 crores (upto November 2013), the top official added.
