Criminal flees police custody; 2 AK-47 rifles looted

A criminal today managed to escape from police custody while being taken to a local court, and along with his associates also looted two AK-47 rifles from the police force.

The accused Anit alias Bhuera, who was being brought from Dehradun, drugged the accompanying policemen and escaped in an auto with the help of his aides while being taken to the court, IG (Law and Order), A Satish Ganesh said.

The accused also took away two AK-47 rifles and an SLR (self-loading rifle) of the cops with them, he said.

Ganesh said that DIG Meerut Ramit Sharma has been asked to work out the case, besides asking for assistance from the Speical Task Force.
