Kalyani, who has rendered some critically acclaimed songs in the past few years, is awaiting the release of Tamil movie 'Cuckoo', where she has 'arranged' as well as crooned to music composed by Santhosh Narayanan.
"Arranging/orchestration in layman terms means composing minus tune. It is a different feel altogether when you do your own compositions," Kalyani told PTI in an interview.
She has been associated with Narayanan for many projects, including the critically acclaimed Tamil movie 'Soodhu Kavvum' in which she did the orchestration.

The cast of the film, produced by Fox Star Studios India and Next Big Film Productions, includes Attakathi Dinesh, Malavika and Aadukalam Murugadas.
Kalyani has also rendered a composition tuned by Mickey J Meyer in an upcoming Telugu movie.
Under Meyer's music direction, she sang the popular 'Aaraduguluntada' in the Telugu multi-starrer blockbuster 'Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu' last year.
The audio of the movie, in which Venkatesh and Mahesh Babhu play the lead roles backed by Prakash Raj, Jayasudha and Rohini Hattangadi in supporting roles, was a huge success.
Asked if the 'arranger' is a regular fixture in the industry, she said, "It all depends on the music director."
Visually challenged music composer Afzal Yusuf, whose songs and background score in the Mammootty- starrer Malayalam movie 'Immanuel' drew wide appreciation, has lined her up for a composition.
"I have listened to her songs. She is highly talented, a refined musician. Someone who is well-versed in Hindustani, Carnatic and Western Classical who can do proper justice to the role of a music arranger," he said.
Kalyani was quite active in the band-- 'Harmonize Projekt' --formed by a group of musician-friends till last year.
"But time is a constraint now that I have a baby," she said.
