Critics award: 'Celluloid' best film

'Celluloid,' a film directed by Kamal based on the life of J C Daniel, the father of Malayalam cinema, has been adjudged the best film of the year 2012 by Kerala Film Critics Association.

Kamal was chosen as the best director. 'Ozhimuri' by Madhupal was adjudged the second best film and Lal was selected as the best actor for his performance in the film.

Swetha Menon was chosen as the best actress for her roles in 'Ozhimuri' and 'Ithramathram,' a Critics Association press release here said.

Veteran actor Nedumudi Venu was selected for the 'Chalachitra Ratna' award for his all-round contribution to Malayalam cinema. Music director Jerry Amaldev, actors Poojapura Ravi and Jayabharati were honoured with the 'Chalachitra Pratibha' awards.
 

Other awardees: Vineeth, Mamta Mohandas (second best actors), Vayalar Saratchandra Varma (lyrics), M Jayachandran (music direction), Sreeram and Vaikom Vijayalakshmi (playback singing), Azhagappan (cinematography), Arunkumar Aravind (editing), Suresh Kollam (art direction), Dulkar Salman, Malavika Menon (debut actors) and Jayan Cherian (debut director).

'Ayalum Nhanum Thammil' by Lal Jose was chosen the best popular film.
