A crocodile was found dead due to "natural cause" at Kandahalli in the district today, a forest official said.
The animal had strayed into a village near the bank of the Bhima river and it was a "natural death", the official said, rejecting reports that it was stoned to death by panicky villagers.
Crocodiles had been straying into some villages due to fast depleting water level, creating panic among the residents, Yadgir District Forest Official Chakrapani told PTI. He said the forest department officials had been taking steps to ensure that the crocodiles were safe.
