Crop damage: RLD stages protest against UP govt's 'apathy'

Rashtriya Lok Dal today staged a protest here demanding waving of farm debts and fair compensation for the crop loss due to untimely rains in the state.

Joined by some farmers, the protesters also raised the issue of non-payment of the sugarcane dues and alleged irregularities in police recruitment.

"Farmers are faced with economic crisis after crop damages and non-payment of sugarcane dues. Distraught farmers are committing suicide. But the government is indulged in irregularities in police recruitment process," said RLD's west UP organisational head Raj Kumar Sangwan.

He alleged that the apathetic state government is not even carrying out proper survey of the damaged crops.
 

The protesters submitted a memorandum addressed to the Governor asking him to direct the state government to give fair compensation to farmers, waiving of farm debts and power bills.

The also demanded a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities in the police and other recruitment process.
