CRPF trooper killed in C'garh Naxal encounter cremated in MP

A Central Reserve Police Force trooper who was killed in an encounter with Naxals in neighbouring Chhattisgarh was Saturday cremated with full state honours here.

CRPF head constable Harish Chand (45) was killed in a firefight with Naxals in a forest near Chameda village in Chhattisgarh's Dhamtari district on Friday.

Chand's daughter Shlesha (12) lit the funeral pyre in the Subhash Nagar crematorium amid slogans of "Bharat Mata ki jai" and "Shaheed Harish Chand amar rahe".

Among those who laid wreaths were Madhya Pradesh minister PC Sharma, former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Bhopal Lok Sabha MP Alok Sanjar.

Hundreds of CRPF and police personnel also paid their tributes to the departed trooper.

 

Earlier, his body was taken in a flower-bedecked truck to his residence in the city's Avadhpuri area after it was brought by train to Habibganj railway station.
