Crude oil prices fell by 0.21 per cent today to Rs 6,240 per barrel as speculators reduced exposures amid a weak trend in Asian trade.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, crude oil for delivery in February fell by Rs 13, or 0.21 per cent, to Rs 6,240 per barrel in 543 lots.

The oil for delivery in March moved down by Rs 8, or 0.13 per cent, to Rs 6,253 per barrel in a business turnover of 66 lots.

The trading sentiment turned weak at futures trade as crude extended losses in Asian trade as investors digested lacklustre US stockpiles and economic data that point towards weakening demand in the world's top crude consumer, analysts said.

Meanwhile, West Texas Intermediate crude prices for March delivery dropped 15 cents to USD 100.20 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
