Crude oil prices rose by 0.40 per cent to Rs 4,264 per barrel in futures market today as speculators created fresh positions amid firm global cues.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, crude oil for delivery in April rose by Rs 17, or 0.40 per cent, to Rs 4,264 per barrel in business turnover of 4852 lots.
Likewise, the oil for delivery in May contracts was up Rs 16, or 0.38 per cent, to Rs 4,269 per barrel in 232 lots.
Analysts attributed the rise in crude oil futures to building up of fresh positions by participants, driven by a firm trend overseas as easing fears of a global trade war offset concerns over rising US crude stockpiles.
Meanwhile, US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude prices were up by 0.43 per cent, at USD 63.83 and Brent crude rose 0.26 per cent, to USD 70.30 a barrel.
