A 35-year-old Delhi Police constable, who was critically injured after allegedly being crushed by a car around a fortnight ago, died in the wee hours today.

The incident was reported on October 20 when constable Manoj and his 23-year-old woman colleague were returning after duty and had stopped at an eatery in east Delhi's Trilokpuri area, said police.

Suddenly, two youths, who were about to leave the eatery in a car after having dinner, allegedly started harassing the woman official, which compelled Manoj to intervene, said police.

After a heated argument, the driver allegedly pressed the accelerator in an apparent bid to escape. Suddenly, the car reversed and crushed Manoj, said police.

The duo, later identified as Ravi and a juvenile, sped towards New Ashok Nagar. They were booked for outraging the modesty of a woman and attempt to murder, said police.

While Ravi was arrested within 24 hours, the juvenile is still at large. Today, the case was converted into that of a murder by Section 302 replacing Section 307 in the existing FIR, said police.

Manoj was a 1997 batch officer and was posted at Mayur Vihar police station for the past two years, police added.
