The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has been providing the science and technology knowledge base to improve quality of life and augmenting income of people, Lok Sabha was informed today.
Union Minister for Science and Technology Harsh Vardhan said CSIR has developed technologies for food and food processing, water, health-care, building and construction, farm machinery, leather, pottery etc.
"The technologies developed have been gainfully utilised in several states and contributed for improving quality of life and economic growth of common people," he said during Question Hour.

The Minister said CSIR has developed a number of technologies on water, ranging from source finding to mapping of water resources, from quality assessment to enhancing potability of water and from recycling to waste water treatment.
It has developed KrishiShakti, a small range diesel engine tractor and the technology has been transferred and manufacturing has been initiated in West Bengal, he said.
Harsh Vardhan said CSIR efforts for socio-economic development had led to empowering people of the Kashmir valley through creation of aromatic plant industry, development of bio-inoculates for enhancing plant productivity and its dissemination to the farmers in Uttar Pradesh in partnership with the state government.
