Suresh Raina (75 off 47 balls) and Ambati Rayudu (46 off 35 balls) did the bulk of scoring for Chennai.
Earlier, Mumbai won the toss and elected to field. They brought in JP Duminy and Ben Cutting in place of Kieron Pollard and Mustafizur Rahman.
