The 'star chamber' booking hall at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) has been provided with specially-designed low wattage LED spot lights of warm colour.

"The lighting scheme is designed as indirect lighting to highlight the architectural design and the stars of this so-called star chamber booking hall, which is a part of the world heritage CST building," Central Railway Chief PRO Narendra Patil said.

"Earlier, the lighting was with 50 metal halide lamps of 70-watt to 250-watt, which have been replaced with 260 15-watt LED spot lights," Patil said.

"Besides improving the asthetic look of the 'star chamber', there is saving of electricity of around 250 kWh unit per day as the lighting load is reduced 10 to 12 kw," the senior Railway official said.

The cost of this exercise is Rs 25 lakh, which will be recovered in three to four years through energy cost savings, Patil said.
