Cuba is once again suspending consular services after being unable to find a new bank in the US for its diplomatic accounts.

The Cuban Interests Section in Washington announced the suspension yesterday.

Cuba provides consular services like visa and passport requests from the Cuban Interests Section in Washington and its Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York.

The US bank that had handled Cuba's accounts severed the relationship last year but agreed to continue accepting deposits through February 17. Consular services were temporarily halted in November but restarted in December after M&T Bank granted the extension.

Travel operators had been gearing up for the deadline and advised those who plan to travel to the Caribbean island to get their documents in before February 17.
