After the end of culling operation of chicken at Keranga village in Khurda district, the Odisha government today appealed to the people in the area not to keep birds for the next three months even as H5N1 virus has been detected in samples collected from Rourkela.
"The residents of Keranga are requested not to do poultry farming for the next three months," Animal Resources Development Department Secretary Bishnupada Sethi said here today.
Sethi said H5N1 virus has been detected in the samples collected from CISF camp and IG park in Rourkela.

Asked about the deaths of crows at Salia Sahi in the state capital, Salepur in Cuttack and Jajpur, Sethi said, "Many birds are succumbing to cold conditions. Our teams have collected the samples of the dead birds and examined it".
"No bird flu virus has been detected in those samples," he said.
