A raw silk cultivator was today trampled to death by a wild elephant at Kalmapukuria village in West Midnapore district today.

The cultivator, 45-year-old Naren Pramanik, was killed by the wild elephant when he had ventured to a forest near his house for monitoring silk cocoons, Kharagpur DFO Anjan Guha said.

Yesterday, another villager Rakhal Patra was crushed to death by a pachyderm at Ragiam village under the same Naygram police station limits when he was returning home after his morning stroll.

A group of 15-20 elephants are present in the area and efforts are being made to drive them away to the jungles, the DFO said.
