The State Election Commission (SEC) has clarified there are no restrictions on development works and activities in local bodies where polls are not scheduled, provided they don't influence voters in election-bound ones.

In a statement today, the SEC said there are no curbs on development works and activities in municipal councils, nagar parishads, panchayat samitis, municipal corporations and zilla parishads where elections are not scheduled.

This is subject to condition they don't influence voters in local bodies where elections are slated, the poll panel said.

However, ministers, MPs, MLAs and other officials can't make any development-related announcement that will influence voters in local bodies going to polls.

As many as 212 civic bodies in 25 districts of Maharashtra will go to polls in four phases between November and January.
