Curfew was clamped in Tarou town of Mewat district in Haryana today in the wake of tension between two communities following a road accident in which one person was killed.

Deputy Commissioner of Mewat R C Verma said in a statement here that the situation in Tarou was now fully under control.

"Curfew has been imposed in the area only as a preventive measure and the administration would ensure that people get supply of essential commodities," Verma said.

He said paramilitary forces were summoned immediately after tension erupted in the area and they were conducting flag marches to instill confidence in the people.

The situation would normalise within a day, claimed Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor, IGP (South Range), who is stationed there to supervise the situation.

Violence started in the town today, some 40 kms from Gurgaon city, after a truck mowed down two bike-borne men, killing one of them on the spot, police said.

The deceased was a 22-year-old youth.

After the mishap, the driver and helper of the truck, who belong to a particular community, were thrashed by a mob, sparking communal violence in the area, they said.

People pelted stones and destroyed shops and business outlets, police officials said, adding that markets were closed after the violence.
